I wanted to share a little something about mothering, whether or not you mother children, we are all mothers.
You are doing a great, great job. ‘
The richest lesson we teach as mothers, as women, is not necessarily the words we speak but in what we do + how we take care of OURSELVES.
Taking care of ourselves looks a lot like mothering ourselves.
I had the pleasure of spending a long weekend in Sonoma with the women on the LiveWell Women’s retreat a few weeks ago + as I reflected on our time there, I couldn’t help but see the theme of mothering throughout our conversations, intentions + desires. How we mother our small children, our grown children, how we mothered each other over the weekend + how we wanted to mother ourselves moving forward.
So instead of this being THE day you get celebrated + give yourself a little mothering, let it be one of the many days you receive the free time, a meal, foot rub, silence, massage, uninterrupted book reading + the compliments you deserve.
When we model this to our children - to anyone around us, really - we show them how to love, how to respect themselves, how to stand up for themselves, how to see their bodies, how to celebrate wild success, how to learn from missteps + how to mother themselves.
Cheers to you,
